Kuta and Tuban Area

Ubud is located 35 km northeast of Bali's International Airport. The Ubud area is around two- to three hundred meters above sea level and surrounded by rice fields, which makes it noticeably cooler than other tourist destinations in Bali. Neighboring villages are well known for unique bamboo crafts and furniture, wood- and stone carving and many other crafts. It is attractive to tourists for a variety of reasons. On a relatively small island with a horde of attractions, Ubud is centrally located, There are plenty reasons why Ubud was voted in recently as the most fascinating city of Asia by Condé Nast Traveler.

Ubud is famous for its regularly nightly traditional dance performances, which are part of the traditional culture and are arranged for tourists on a regular schedule. Hindu-Balinese ceremonies take place on a nearly daily basis, especially in the European summer, which is the driest and coolest season here.

Ubud is popular in part today because it is the best place in Bali to break out of the tourist mode and get off the beaten path, although far from undiscovered. Many tourists simply base their entire stay in the city and travel to other destinations from Ubud. Tourism on the island developed after the arrival of Walter Spies who taught painting and music, and dabbled in dance. Spies and foreign painters Willem Hofker and Rudolf Bonnet entertained celebrities includingCharlie Chaplin, Noel Coward, Barbara Hutton, H.G. Wells and Vicki Baum. They brought in some of the greatest artists from all over Bali to teach and train the Balinese in arts, helping Ubud become the cultural centre of Bali. Accommodations in Ubud are also somewhat more reasonably priced than in the beach towns of Bali. But atmosphere is perhaps the major attractions. Most of exclusive hotels in Ubud are perched above the verdant River Gorge such as Ayung River, Petanu River, Oos River, etc, overlooking natural forest and an emerald green cascade of rice paddies.

Ubud Monkey Forestis a small rain forest dwelt by some group of monkeys and other tropical animals. It is strategically located in the hearth of Ubud Village, precisely located in the region of Padang Tegal Village, Ubud Sub district. Ubud Monkey Forest is dwelt by 200 monkeys, pertained to long tail inclusive macaques or macaca fascicularis group which owns the wide disseminating area. All the monkeys in this forest consisted of three groups, dwell certain area and use the certain place and certain time. Elephant Cave (Gua Gajah) is located in west side of Bedulucountryside. This cave was a hermitage, built at crevasse edge from the federation of 2 rills that is called Pangkung River , where the irrigation is mixed with Petanu River flow, it considerately owns the magical energy on the basis of Rwabineda Concept/two different matters. The hermitage of both Buddhism and Hinduism probably were built before the 11th century and consisted of 2 main structure, the cave itself and the holy pool.The Holy Pool is previously piled up by land and it has been found on 1954 by Krijgsman from the Ancient Department. Ubud Traditional Art Market is a society economics center of Ubud and it is apposite to the existence of Ubud Empire that is called Puri Saren. There are two markets available at the same area those are one block at the Westside is for a traditional artistic market and another block located in the east as an everyday traditional fundamental market requirement. This market is opened every day about at 08:00 until 18:00, even some from them still open until nighttime. While the traditional market for the fundamental requirement is opened everyday at 06:00 - even before that there is morning market started at 04:00 morning.

Gunung Kawi is a Hindu Temple complex with old omission from the stone era located at the valley of Pekerisan River in Sebatu Village. The name of Gunung Kawi is given on the omission which is related to the complex of temples because the temple on this area is like the symbol from the mount (gunung).

Batubulan Village is an artistic countryside identified by focusing in artistic of stone carving. The identity and image as an art village, Batubulan also has been famous all over the world based upon their artistic blessing dance of Barong (Barong and Keris dance)

Tegalalang Rice Terrace located at Tegalalang village on the north-south road from Kintamani and Ubud. Tegallalang rice terrace considered as one of Bali's natural tourism icon with its beautiful view combined with coconut trees and beautiful small river valley. Tegalalang Village also well known as handicrafts centre specially for wholesale and export. Various woodcarvings can be found in this village and its neighbors. Very colorful carvings of flowers, animals and other designs are displayed along the road, and of course a beautiful rice terrace.

CAFE LOTUS in the center of Ubud between the main street and a large, beautiful lotus pond in front of a temple (designed by the famous artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad) this pleasant open-air restaurant serves a variety of Italian pasta dishes, some Asian and local specialties such as the Balinese duck 'Bebek Betutu', and a good choice of cakes and fruit juices. Although the prices here are quite steep for Ubud standards, CAFE LOTUS is busy the whole day.

BRIDGE CAFE offers creative 'Pacific Rim' cuisine i.e. tasty culinary creations with influences from Thailand, India, China and Japan as well as local specialties, salads and vegetarian dishes. Try the Szechuan Pancakes filled with deep fried duck, the Thai Chicken Pizza, or the Chilly Prawns. Very pleasant atmosphere and good service.

BEBEK BENGIL (DIRTY DUCK ) in Padang Tegal about one kilometer south of Ubud's main street. Their range of other Indonesian and Western dishes, however, is quite tasty, the garden setting very pleasant, and the live background music in the evenings creates a nearly magic atmosphere.

INDUS Restaurant Well-spaced tables on two levels offer a beautiful view over the Campuan river valley, the service is very friendly, and they serve a wide range of health food from Italian pizza, ravioli and fettucini, Middle Eastern Mezze, Chinese spring rolls, Thai Thom Kha Kai soup, and Indonesian Nasi Campur, Gado Gado, and even a Balinese "Smoked Duck Feast".
